Personal Pensions Overview

For most people in work and of a certain age, early retirement is the ultimate dream. However for many, the common reality is that early retirement is not financially viable and could lead to serious financial consequences in the future.

If you are working and paying National Insurance contributions you will be eligible for a basic State Pension. You may also be building up an additional pension, the State Second Pension (S2P) formerly the State Earnings Related Pensions Scheme (SERPS). The self employed however, cannot build up a pension through S2P. These state pensions may not be enough to give you the standard of living you require, so you will need another source of income as well. Your retirement may last 20 or 30 years - maybe longer so you need to be prepared - you may be living on your retirement income for a long time.

Some people are fortunate enough to be in an employer's pension scheme however, even this will need to be kept under review to ensure there are sufficient funds for retirement. For those without this benefit and who have to make their own provision we recommend you seek professional advice.

Jeffreys Henry Financial can help you consider the cost of retirement and assess your position before it is too late to make a difference. We can determine the level of pension your current arrangements could provide and then, if there is a shortfall between what you want and what you might get, provide a recommendation as to how best meet your expectations.

There are different types of pension contracts which are available in the open market and we can help determine which are the most suitable depending on your current situation. Pensions are a tax efficient savings vehicle designed to provide a regular income in retirement.

If you have an existing pension plan the contribution level and investment performance should be reviewed on a regular basis or whenever a major change occurs in your life. We can help by assessing your position taking into consideration previous history and any preserved pension benefits you may have.
